The Budleigh bowlers have paid tribute to two loyal members of the bowls club recently and have been saddened by their loss.
Both Gerry Roberts and Ron Tyler contributed much to bowls with their love for the game and their enthusiastic involvement in the club.
Gerry started his bowling career as a lead bowler but he was always destined to become the skip and in his heyday was a formative player.
Proud of the fact that he attained his Outdoor and Indoor Devon County badge, he played in many County competitions, representing the bowls section 3 in the Coronation Cup. At Club level, Gerry was the 2011 Men’s Champion, going on to win the two wood and handicap competitions.
Ron was a club man through and through, and his contribution to the club is well remembered. President in 2013 and previously Captain of the club, he also undertook the role of fixture secretary.
Winner of the novice cup at the club, he was a big supporter of the County Trophy and organised the popular Budleigh Open Tournament for many years.
Both men had a wicked sense of humour and were well known in the wider bowling fraternity. They have both left fond memories for many still enjoying the game.
