The eighty-sixth annual Open Budleigh Tournament ended, as it had begun, in glorious sunshine.
Again, the club owes a debt of gratitude to co-ordinator Ron Tyler and all his supporters for the long hours spent in a hot tournament hut.
The list of members and volunteers who gave so freely of their time to make the event a success is endless and it would be unjust to highlight the efforts of any individual, so many thanks to all who played a part, both indoors and out.
Our sponsors and advertisers have an important role and are also deserving of thanks.
It is always a pleasure to re-acquaint ourselves with those entrants who have attended for many years and to meet new competitors who leave promising to return next year.
The winner of the Men’s singles was Chippenham’s Keith Hutchens who repeated his success of 2012.
Hutchens also partnered Budleigh’s Bobbie Vanstone to victory in the Mixed Pairs.
The Men’s pairs was won by C Mees and R Hardman from Exonia and the Open Triples title was won by A Smith, D Little and M Sandoz who were from Guilt Edge.
Congratulations to Budleigh’s Diane Dixon and Gordon Thomas who reached the semi-final of the Mixed Pairs, as did Joan Cowing and Paul Griffin.
The latter also reached the semi-final of the Singles.
Cricket Field Lane has returned to it’s normal calm self after a hectic few days and we are looking forward to welcoming visitors from Marldon and Bexhill.
