Exmouth Sea Angling Association members ventured far and wide last weekend for the latest club event, the July Weekend Rover.
Fishing from Friday through to Sunday the goal for members was a ‘bag’ of two best fish; each fish being a different species.
With most anglers fishing locally throughout, competitors reported numerous species during the weekend including starry smoothound, scad, bass, wrasse, dogfish, ray, pout whiting, rockling and common smoothounds to name but a few.
However, come the Sunday evening weigh-in, the winning ‘bag’ of 191 per cent came from the north coast with Si Boeree of Lympstone recording a specimen common smoothound of 10lb 7oz and a near specimen spotted ray of 3lb 10oz. Second was Exmouth angler Mike ‘the crab’ Richardson whilst third was Brian ‘the Viking’ Reed who also recorded a new ESAA record horse mackerel.
As is club practice, all fish not destined for supper were recorded and immediately returned to the sea unharmed.
