BUDLEIGH Salterton booked a semi-final place in the Seaton Challenge Cup under the Greenway lane lights on Wednesday night when they edged out Feniton in what proved to be a seven goal thriller.

Budleigh open the brighter of the two team's and, after being on top for twenty minutes, Steve Maynard headed them in front.

Feniton equalised ten minutes later from a well finished goal, but Budleigh regained the lead when Leigh Begam scored with just the keeper to beat. Begam nearly scored again when Sam Schlaefli broke up play and his lob was just over the bar leaving the game heading into half time with the Robins leading 2-1.

The hosts began the 2nd half looking for what would surely be a decisive third but Feniton were also hungry for goals and it was they who scored next.

On the hour mark the visitor's were level from a well worked set play.

Worse was to follow when Budleigh stepped out and a Feniton striker took advantage of the failed off side trap to give his side a 3-2 lead.

With Aaron Poulton and Craig Higham both struggling with injuries and Liam Ellis asking to come off owing to a worsening condition of tonsillitis, Budleigh threw on Simon Rose and his impact was huge.

With one minute of normal time left Schlaefli crossed and Rose half volleyed home into the roof of the net to grab the equaliser and then, deep into added time Leigh Begam was the hero as Rose crossed and Begam headed home a dramatic winner to give the Robins a 4-3 win.

Robins boss Alex Freer said: "I am delighted with both effort and application. The boys refused to concede and we worked very hard to get our just rewards. Perhaps this is a sign that our luck is beginning to change for the better."
