The Axe Cliff men contested the Monthly Medal, writes Peter Motson.
In the men’s section Division One was won by Gavin Walker (on the back nine) with a nett 70 and also with that score, but edged into second place, was Craig Trivett.
In Division Two, Johnny Potter took the honours, again on the back nine with a nett 71 and Jason Farrant was the player edged into second place with his nett 70.
Gavin Walker and Alex Todd both scored a two.
The Ladies Section played a fund raising stableford match with the entry fee proceeds going to Children In Need. Pauline Willis took first place with Helen Kenworthy second and Jo Donmall third.
The Axe Cliff seniors had their meeting with Libbaton delayed by rain and fog, but the team were clearly not affected by the miserable weather and they went on to win this, their last match of the season, four-and-a-half to one-and-a-half.
The winning pairs were John Mant and Mick Tomes, Leighton Morgan and Chris Walker, Rob heard and Rob Grove and, Ed Backhouse and Peter Hornsby.
The match captain of the day Gilbert Cox and his partner Geoff Wake recorded the half honours match result. The seniors section captain is confident that his members will hone their skills over winter in readiness for next season’s matches.
