Axe Cliff ladies began their week well with a 6-1 home success over Honiton in a Shelagh Creasy competition meeting, writes Dave Bruce.

In midweek just a select few had the delights of a grey and windy, but cool mid Summer's day with the sun and warmth arriving just as they were finishing their round.

However, it was very enjoyable and hard fought Par competition. The top two only separated on countback with first place ultimately going to Margaret Kenchington with Stella Thompson taking second spot after both returned a score of minus for.

Later in the day, despite the better weather, the ladies lost their re-arranged Shelagh Creasy fixture against a strong East Devon team, going down 6-1.

On Thursday, Sandra Walker, as captain of the Devon Ladies Golf Society was hosting a Bowmaker at Torquay Golf Club and was blessed with a gorgeous sunny day helped with a little breeze.

Axe Cliff's team of Barbara Cummings, Caroline Bond and Jo Donmall did Sandra proud taking third spot. Barbara also won nearest the pin for bronze players.
