On a gala evening at Woodbury Park, guests were treated to a fabulous evening of Exmouth RFC Awards for the 21-22 season, in between a delicious meal with dancing until late.

There was also a nod to the 2020 season that ended abruptly and all the struggles that Covid placed on regional sport, with the game of rugby suffering more than most.

The Cockles bounced back and enjoyed a fabulous season across the club. Hosted by Chair Ian Harris, this was a real celebration with recognition of those who have achieved and strive to help the club, on and off the field.

All awards and honours, presented by Honorary President Roger Holman, were richly deserved and met with magnificent applause from the guests on the evening. Players from across The Cockles were handed accolades for try scoring, recognition by their team-mates, peers and the club. Player of the Year was won by Nick Headley. Colts Player of the Year went to Wilf Bryant with Girls U18 Player of the Year, Alberta Sprague.

Presentations were also made to volunteers who have given their time to support the whole club. Sue Harris and Nick Smith, a superb example of part of a fabulous wider team deserved special honours, together giving nearly 50 years combined service in volunteer roles to Exmouth Rugby.

Ian Harris commented: “The Cockles have experienced changes over the last two years and this event was a chance to recognise commitment, effort and dedication across our senior club.

“It is pleasing to see new, returning and familiar faces working as volunteers to help all involved across Exmouth Rugby, often unseen. My appreciation and sincere thanks go to all who give up their valuable time and put their energy to help us to a bright future, with a club for all at the heart of the community.

“Our Junior Awards were recently presented in front of a large audience of players, parents, close family, friends and superb club supporters and volunteers. Another brilliant celebration, this time at Ocean Exmouth. The Cockles have some exciting times coming next season.”
