There has been some splendid bowls in the Budleigh Indoor in-house competitions, writes Pat Pearson.

Competing for the Ladies Singles championship, Diane Dixon and Dianzee Lowe set a high standard of bowling which continued through the rest of the competitions.

Dixon got off to the better start and at ten ends led Lowe 12-8. However, then Lowe picked up her game to level the score to 14-14 at 14 ends, and , with the help of a strategic change of jack length, she romped on to a 21-14 triumph.

In the Novice Cup, Yvonne Smith put the pressure on Mo Bond from the very first end and, despite brave shots from Bond, scored steadily to achieve a 21-13 victory.

The 2-wood final saw Dianzee Lowe in action once again, this time against Ivy Daniel, - a relatively new bowler at Budlegh.

The two had a ding-dong game with Daniel leading 12-11 at 17 ends and from there going on to win 15-11

The last match to be played was the pairs which saw Lorna Autton and Lilian Grainger taking on Margaret Avery and Dawn Graham.

Auton and Grainger were in great form and led from the first end and raced into a 12-2 lead at eight ends, but the standard of bowling was really exceptional in this game and Avery and Graham fought back to lose in the end by a margin of just five shots with Autton and Grainger landing a 19-14 success - well played!
