Four Exmouth Harriers competed in the Neolithic Fell Race, five miles of fantastic running taking in 290m of ascent on some of the most spectacular Tors in West Devon and some ancient Neolithic monuments.
The event is described as “off road running at its best”. The race started and finished at Merrivale next to the Dartmoor Inn. Brothers Sam & James Kelly were joined by Hugh Marsden and Dawn Teed.
Sam was the first Harrier to cross the finish line in 3rd place overall with his Brother James not far behind. Hugh was the next Harrier to finish and he was the first M60 to finish. Dawn finished in fine form and was looking forward to the next races in the Dartmoor Fell Race series.
Hugh Marsden and Dawn Teed put on their racing shoes for the second time in 48 hours when they took part in Wild Running's Yar Tor Fell Race (the 7th in the 2021 Dartmoor Fell Race series). It was a 5km run with 235m of ascent to the top of Yar Tor. Both ran really well over an extremely tough course with the following results: 25th Hugh Marsden (1st M60) 41.52 and 57th Dawn Teed (5th W50) 56.39.
Chris Murrin ran another marathon on Saturday 31st July in the Larmer Tree event in Blandford, Dorset. This was marathon number 88 in his quest to complete 100 marathons by mid 2022.
Chris finished in 5 hours 2 minutes 31 seconds on a very tough course that was a bit of a lengthy 27 miles and took in over 2,200ft of elevation.
Chris has already planned his 89th marathon; it’s next weekend on Sunday 8th August at the Ooser Marathon in Dorset, he will be joined in the race by fellow Harrier Terry McKie.
After resting for a few weeks, Lisa Hatchard raced in another ultra running event, the Round Reading Ultra race, and she finished the 50km in a very quick time of 5 hours 31 minutes 54 seconds.
The course circumnavigated the town of Reading and included a variety of terrain; flat river and canal towpaths, undulating woodland trails, country lanes and paths through Reading's many urban green spaces.
