THE Warren View home of Exmouth Amateurs was a hive of telephone activity on Saturday morning, writes Ross England.

With all the recent rain, Ammies 3rd team boss Dave Leaper made arrangements on Saturday morning to switch his side's game to Woodbury Common only for the call to come in at 11am that scheduled cup opponents, Cheriton Fitzpaine, could not raise a side and so no action for the Ammies 3rds, but at least they do have a place in the next round of the cup to look forward to!

No action either for a frustrated Ammies 1st team squad who were assembling at Warren View when a 1pm call came in to say that the ground at opponents Willand Rovers for an East Devon Cup tie, had been rendered unfit for play after heavy morning rain.

The Ammies 2nd team did get action, albeit a part of a gem as their meeting with Barnstaple Town at Warren View got under way.

Ammies took the lead through a fine strike from Josh Hill, cancelled out by a Barum goal before the break, but with conditions becoming impossible for play the referee called a halt to the proceedings and the match will be re-scheduled later in the season.

The club will hope for better weather this weekend with the 1st team having a local derby meeting at home to Otterton, whilst the 2nd and 3rd teams travel to Honiton Town and Westexe, respectively.

The First team go into the meeting with basement dwellers Otterton sitting midtable, but in danger of losing touch with the six clubs above them, none of whom have lost more than two top flight games this term.

The Ammies have won five and lost four of their nine to date and will need to bank maximum points at Warren View if they are to retain any aspirations of Premier Division honours this term.
