The Madeira week began with a full house, which meant both greens in use with a 12 rink match, writes Ron Stares.

The visitors were from Purnell (Bristol) and, in beautiful conditions, the full green was a sight to see.

With all twelve rinks in use high scoring is always the order of the day and that was the case for this match.

It was not until after tea that Madeira began to take charge, this after the sides had arrived at 102 each.

Madeira started to put on the pressure and by the three quarter stage had opened up a gap of 26 shots.

Over the last six ends they kept up the pressure and ended with a winning score of 232-209 (23+).

The best performing Madeira rink was Jenny Turner, Ron Stares, David Mears and skip Charles Darke who won by 16 shots.
