THERE were three ladies' matches played last week, writes Ron Stares.
The first was a triples game with Axminster that saw the hosts edge into a four shot lead after five ends, increase that to 11 by the half-way stage and eventually run our 50-40 winners.
The best performing Madeira triple was Lin Haplin, Fay Hughes and skip Pat Bowman who, won by 13 shots.
Next was a meeting with the Devon County Ladies' Bowling Association patrons and they proved to be strong opposition!
The visitors led by eight after five ends and by 19 half-way through before going on to win 71-47 (-24).
Two of the home rinks won, the best performing one being that of Dorothy Russell, May Dyson, Barbara Williams and skip Liz Healy, who won by nine shots.
The final game was against visiting Dunkeswell.
Madeira started in grand style, taking a 12 shot lead after five ends.
They continued to lead all the way through, reaching the three-quarter stage with a 22 shot advantage before eventually emerging as 65-35 (30+) winners.
The best performing host rink was that of Dee Williams, Mike Cannings, Jenny Smith and skip Keith Weeks, who won by 22 shots.
