Division One Budleigh Salterton AFC Veterans will start as hot favourites when they take on Division Three Exmouth Town FC Veterans in the second round of the Kepring Devon Veterans Football League Cup.

Dubbed ‘The Jurassic Coast Derby’, Greenway Lane (the home of Budleigh Salterton FC) will play host to the much anticipated match, under the floodlights, on Friday, December 22. Kick off is 7pm, and the bar and clubhouse will be open.

Steve Hitchcock, Budleigh Salterton AFC Veterans Club Secretary, said: “We were absolutely delighted to offer to host this local veterans derby. We are expecting a very competitive and spirited game - we look forward to warmly welcoming supporters, friends and families from both sides.”

Carl Wilson, Co-Manager of Exmouth Town FC veterans, added: “ This cup draw has added spice, as many of the lads have played both together and against each other over the years for various local teams. Our squad is really looking forward to it, and we will give it a good go.”

The game is guaranteed to be very competitive and a terrific way to get ready for the festive football calendar, both on the telly and (weather permitting) on pitches across East Devon.

Darryl Nicholas, Co-Manager of Exmouth Town FC veterans, said: “Veterans football is an important part of the local sports scene, and the health and social benefits are massive for players who are aged over 35. It is brilliant of Budleigh to host this on a Friday evening - we hope a good crowd comes along to enjoy a great game of football and a few festive drinks.”

Exmouth Journal:

On Friday evening, Exmouth Town were fortunate to have guest speaker, the former Wales, Celtic and Arsenal striker John Hartson, who treated guests at the club to some wonderful tales from his footballing journey.

A three-course meal, followed by raffles and competitions, helped raise £1000 for his charity FND.
The talk he gave about his career on and off the field was graciously received by around 100 people at the club. He was supported by compare and former Exeter City legend Jonny Hodge.
