Oscar Walsh continued his fine form with a starring role in Budleigh Salterton’s efficient 3-1 victory at Thorverton in the Devon Football League, writes Alan Beer.

Budleigh entered the game with a depleted side but the two youngsters, Fraser Pearce and Finley King, made a terrific impact coming into the team. The Robins enjoyed the perfect start, Liam West picking up a loose ball from 18 yards to open the scoring on four minutes.

West was also involved six minutes later, guiding a lofted pass into the path of Walsh, who fizzed a low cross that just eluded the run of Jack Hocking. Thorverton responded with an equaliser, taking advantage of some sloppy defensive play from Budleigh.

The Robins regrouped for the second period but only after Thorverton had twice struck the woodwork. Walsh finally grabbed a crucial second, cutting inside from the flank to fire an assured finish beyond the home goalkeeper.

Budleigh cemented their victory with a third goal in the closing seconds, when Walsh, again, rounded off the performance with a lovely solo goal to complete an excellent individual display, alongside the impressive link play of Hocking in the vanguard.

In a top of the table clash in the Devon & Exeter League, Budleigh 2nds ended the 100% record of visitors Broadclyst with a tremendous 4-2 victory, writes SpursTom.

Broadclyst struck first but that merely galvanised the Robins, who deservedly levelled through Greg MacMartin. Unfortunately, the home side were punished for a subsequent dip in performance levels, allowing the visitors to lead 2-1 at the break.

The Budleigh response was brilliant. Jordan Wakefield slotted a low drive beyond the Broadclyst custodian for a second equaliser and the Robins took control from there, with man of the match Ryan Tullett superb in the engine room.

MacMartin gave Budleigh the lead with a bullet header just past the hour and then, for the second week running, substitute Paul Barnes made his presence felt with a decisive fourth, with Joint Manager Mark Baitup describing the second half display as the “best he has witnessed from the team all season”.
