The latest game for Exmouth RFC was a lot closer than the score suggests, hardly a classic encounter, Barnstaple ran out winners 3-26.

For the second week on the bounce, the Cockles registered a sole penalty, this one from Gareth Roebuck. It wasn’t for the lack of trying. They were adjudged to have been held up over the try line four times during the game. Also, a couple of final passes going astray did not help the cause.

Exmouth took the lead on 11 minutes, but on 20 minutes, Barum scored the first of four tries, through Brandon Moore, Connor Swann, Dan Johnson and Ross Swales, three converted by Jake Murphy. 3-14 down at half time, the COCKLES looked in contention. However, either side of the break, they gifted the visitors two tries from a wayward tap and charge down kick.

Working hard to establish themselves in the game, the lads certainly never gave up and did create chances. The scrum improved through the outing, lineouts started to click and running rugby definitely kept the large crowd on their feet.

Following on from last week, Jack Fahy had a longer run out after Toby Papp left the field with an injury. Several interchanges during the game would have given the Cockles’ coaching team food for thought on potential team formations.

Another disappointing result for the Cockles, who now sit mid table in Regional 1 South West. A week off, then regroup for Brixham away on Saturday, October 14. Exmouth Rugby will continue to screen Rugby World Cup games over the weekend.

Team: Jack Madge, Charlie Gibbings, Tommy Andrews, Lee Loveridge, Oli Mason, Will Ridout ©, Olly Willis, Toby Papp, Matt Ryan, Gareth Roebuck, Jake Inglis, Oli Cave, Nick Headley, James Clarke, Robbie Weeks. Brad Skinner, Jack Fahy, Sam Whitehead.

Exmouth Quins were good value against Plymouth Argaum RFC 1st Team, registering a 19-38 win on the road. The Cockles were down at half time and the game was close until the final 10 minutes. With greater fitness and more power, the young side closed the game out ending with six tries. A fine bonus point victory.

On Saturday, the Quins make the short trip to North Tawton RFC 1st Team, for a rearranged Counites 2 Devon League game.

Exmouth Colts headed to a strong Plymstock Oaks RFC Colts, losing 11-27 in Plymouth.
