The lethal Jack Hocking was among the goals once again, as the Robins of Budleigh Salterton fought back from two goals down to earn an excellent point at home to high-flying Lakeside Athletic.

The visitors took control of the first period and deservedly went in front on just four minutes, Brandon Jones finding space in the Budleigh penalty area to head home from a corner.

Budleigh’s first effort came from a Jake Chudley strike midway through the first period but the save was comfortable for the visiting custodian and the Robins were relatively happy to be just one down at half-time.

The challenge was doubled on 52 minutes when a Lakeside shot struck the home post and Harry Frost reacted first to fire home the rebound. Thankfully, straight from the restart, Budleigh pulled a goal back through the ever-reliable Hocking.

The Robins almost levelled 15 minutes from time, when a Hocking effort struck the woodwork and rolled into the arms of the Lakeside ‘keeper. Budleigh kept on pushing and got their reward after fine work from Jake Pond and Jacob Tinsley down the right flank. The ball was squared into the six-yard box and Hocking banged in his tenth of the season.
