After a very busy period of racing recently, a few Exmouth Harriers raced in a couple of quality 10km events and did some local parkrun tourism, writes Des White.

On a very warm and blustery evening on Wednesday, July 19, five Harriers took part in City Runs Exeter 10km; a two-lap traffic-free flat run on footpaths, cycle tracks and tracks around the River Exe, Exeter Canal and Riverside Valley Park.

Oli White led the Harriers home in third place in a great time of 34.27, followed by the ever-improving Josh Sale in 20th place in 37.27 and Craig Butler in 42nd place in 39.47. Jenny Reay ran a superb race finishing in 76th place in 44.31 closely followed by Andy Johnson in 95th place in 46.38.

On Sunday, Steve Morgan travelled a few hundred miles north to compete in the Helena Tipping 10km; a super quick course on the outskirts of Wrexham towards the rural border with Cheshire. Luckily, the rain held off for the race, Steve was really pleased to record his fastest 10km time for 11 years, finishing in 299th overall and 4th M65 place in 45.48.

As well as some great racing results a number of Harriers decided to take a trip to Totnes on Saturday to take part in a relatively new Parkrun at Sharpham Estate, running on a very undulating footpath alongside the beautiful River Dart.

Results: 1st Oli White 17.11, 7th Craig Butler 20.46, 18th Jon Garitty 22.37, 23rd Terry McKie 23.43, 31st Scott Jordan 24.52, 51st Sarah Baldwin 28.13, 52nd Alison White 28.29, 57th Des White 29.15.

The Exmouth Harriers are a local running club with full accreditation to England Athletics. Training takes place during the week and full details on membership options can be found on www.exmouthharriers.co.uk

Most training sessions start and finish from the Tennis Centre in Exmouth at 7pm, but this can change and updates can be found on the training page and via the club whatsapp group. The Harriers offer new members the chance to attend a tester session before committing to joining the club as a full member.
