In another busy week for the junior teams at Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club, the U15s and U14s both won their games on Sunday.

A fifty run retirement from Max Jasper and an attractive 21 from Otto Salih took Budleigh to 122-5 in the derby with Exmouth, who lost wickets to Max Jasper, Tom Eaves and George Dale in falling just short of the required total.

Over in Axminster, the U14s set a target of 154-4 with notable run scorers being Marcus Robinson with 18, Ben Picton with 33 and Alex Roper with 25. Ben Picton and Alex Roper together achieved an incredible partnership of 100, mainly due to extras from Axminster’s bowling.

Budleigh went into their fielding innings with opening bowlers Daniel Gracie and Henry Russell, both taking one wicket. Further wickets were taken by Theo Campbell (1), George Mills (1) and Oscar Simms with an amazing five. Budleigh’s excellent bowling performance led to Axminster being all out for 71.

The ladies’ softball team travelled to Ottery St Mary. In Budleigh’s batting innings, the top run scorers include Charlotte Taylor with 16 and Kirsty Robinson with 12 who helped Budleigh reach a total of 102/5.

Budleigh showed an impressive performance in their bowling, Kirsty Robinson took one wicket and Charlotte Taylor and Nancy Bubb each took two but Ottery did enough to win. Taylor, Hannah Bolwell and Hattie Real were also among the wickets in a narrow defeat to Exmouth.

Back at the Holt, the men’s second team secured victory against Heathcoat. Budleigh elected to bat first, with Steve Booth (51) and Marc Troman (42) setting a strong platform. They were backed up by Harvey Shipton (32) and Donovan Robinson (41) for a total of 243/9.

The bowlers were then able to successfully keep Heathcoat’s run total down to 184 all out, due to Kamalakar Posapalli taking a wicket and both Sean Buttler and Lee Russel each taking four. Budleigh won by 59 runs.

The thirds faced off against Sandford. Budleigh batted first and amassed a total of 145 all out after impressive batting performances from Neil Murrin (40) and William Down (17). Unfortunately, Sandford came out victorious, despite losing wickets to Rowan Mould, Oscar Simms and Otto Salih.
