Exmouth Town will start their competitive season with a trip to Falmouth Town in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup on Saturday, August 5, writes John Dibsdall.

In the early rounds of the competition, replays are in order if the sides are level at full time. The winners of the tie will be at home to Frome Town on August 19. It is likely that the club will be running a coach to the match and further details will be provided.

In the FA Trophy, Town have a home tie against Wimborne Town on September 9, with the winners away to either Kidlington or North Leigh on September 23.

Town last played Falmouth in the 2018/19 season, drawing the home game 0-0 but goals from Jordan Harris and Dave Rowe gave us a 2-1 win at their Bickland Park Stadium.

This Friday, Town will learn their fixtures for their Southern League season starting on August 12 and played their first warm up game with an entertaining match against Truro City watched by a healthy crowd in excess of 300.

With several regulars missing, manager Kevin Hill took the opportunity to give a taste of senior football to some of last years under 18’s youth side and Alec Holifield caught the eye, scoring a well-taken individual goal to give Town a deserved 1-0 half time lead.

Truro made nine changes to their second half side and superb strikes from Rocky Neal and Will Dent saw them take the lead, as they controlled the game but Town came back strongly and almost grabbed an equaliser.

Good build-up play found Ethan Slater in space and his volley looked destined for the top corner but he was denied by a superb save.

Last night (Tuesday) Town were in action at Buckland Athletic and this Saturday are home to Llanwit Major, kick-off 2pm. The Welsh side play in the Cymru South Division in the second tier of the Welsh Football League. Town are again home next Wednesday evening when they host the Royal Marines, Kick-off 7.30pm.
