Budleigh Bowls Club hosted their first Mixed Triples of the new outdoor season at the beginning of May and the day merely whetted the appetite for a great summer ahead.
The visitors were from Belmont Bowling Club in Exeter and, as they were unable to raise a mixed team, nine men arrived from Belmont to play the three mixed teams of Budleigh.
The Budleigh trio of Annie Clarke, Jackey Phillip and Bryan Membery produced a hard-fought victory, 16-15, and a brilliant match of bowls that definitely ticked the box of ‘nip and tuck’, with the other two home teams losing. The overall result was a victory for Belmont of 59-36 but more than enough good Budleigh performances to give them confidence for the season.
Budleigh captain Tony Mackness said: "We are looking forward to our return match at Belmont in August and hope it will be a Mixed match."
