Exmouth Harrier Cathy Newman is the leading UK Woman Over 60 in 2023 after four road racing events.

Newman was one of seven Harriers racing in the third and final race in the 2022/23 Run Exe 5 Mile Series on the Exmouth seafront in the “usual” brutal wet and windy conditions.

It was a very successful evening of racing with all seven Harriers recording amazing times whilst battling against the elements with Oli White 1st overall & 1st M35, Cathy Newman was 1st W60 and scored the overall top age graded percentage of 96%, Jenny Reay was 3rd W60 and scored the 3rd highest age graded percentage overall with 90%, Scott Jamieson was 1st M40 and Alison White was 1st W65.

To score in the three-race series, you had to do at least two of the three races. Going into this race, a few Harriers were in contention for a place in the series top 10 age grading percentages. After the race the series results were calculated and Jenny finished 2nd overall with an average from her two races of 89.5%, Oli was 5th with 83.5% and Alison was 10th with 79.0%.

Cathy’s time of 32.34 in this race now gives her the top 2023 UK W60 placing in four distances: Parkrun, 5 Miles, 10km and Half Marathon.

Chris Murrin finished his 4th Marathon in 3 weeks in 9th position in 4.00.55, it was his 112th Marathon overall. This Red (Running Events Devon) Marathon was eight laps of 5.3km on the Exmouth / Budleigh Trail, starting and finishing near the Capel Lane entrance.

Chris is now taking a short break to plan his next few Marathons in preparation for his major target for 2023; The Jurassic Coast 100 Miles (from Poole to Exmouth) in June.

Lisa Hatchard finished the 30-mile Cerne Giant challenge in Dorset with over 4,200 feet of elevation gain in 7.53.46. It started and finished in the village of Cerne Abbas, site of the famous Cerne Giant, the route took in some of the best downland and river valleys of Dorset.

Lisa described it afterwards as “a bit hilly” and she was really pleased to have finished after only recovering from Covid-19 five days before the event and she not run for two weeks.
