Devon Football NE League front-runners Beer Albion and Budleigh Salterton shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Budleigh.
It looked odds-on that Beer would lose their unbeaten record for the season until a dramatic 96th minute strike from Josh French earned the Fishermen a draw.
As the first half progressed, the Robins became sharper in the tackle and showed more determination than the Fishermen and after a couple of pacey counter-attacks, they went ahead on 19 minutes, Sam Rawlings converting a fine cross from Oscar Walsh.
Four minutes after the break, the Robins went close to doubling their lead when a Jake Pond header from a corner flew inches wide.
Budleigh were on the brink of a marvellous victory but seven minutes of stoppage time handed Beer their chance, and a scramble in the six-yard box saw French stab home a last-gasp leveller.
Budleigh move on to another difficult game this weekend, as they travel to the University of Exeter.
Budleigh Salterton 2nds made it three wins out of three with a fine 6-2 away win at Exeter United, which means in these three matches they have scored 14 goals and conceded three.
The goal-getters against Exeter United were Joe Graham (2), Jamie Crossman, Matthew Lidstone, Corey Miller and Will White. A victory which strengthens the Robins chances of finishing in the top four, writes SpursTom.
A difficult season for Budleigh Salterton Women endured another tough outing on Sunday, as they slipped to a 6-0 defeat at home to an excellent Marine Academy Plymouth side.
It was always going to be a big ask for the Robinettes against the leading side in the Devon Women’s Football League but the spirit on display from Budleigh hopefully suggests a better season ahead next year. The final game is away to Sticker this weekend.
On the junior side of the club, Budleigh Under-9 Reds and Under-9 Robins played a double header against the Lympstone Pirates and Legends.
All four matches were very entertaining, and surely warmed up those of us who came out on a very cold morning. Budleigh goalkeeper Louie Burford-Campbell won Player of the Day.
