Budleigh Salterton suffered a rare off day in the Devon Football League, as they never really got going in a 1-0 defeat at Thorverton.

The game itself was a disappointing affair, which lacked quality in attacking areas. Thorverton had the first genuine chance on 20 minutes, heading wide from a decent cross, before another delivery from the left was headed against the bar.

Budleigh improved after the break and looked more threatening, but without creating clear-cut opportunities, while the Robins’ goalkeeper Tom Pryke produced some top saves at the other end.

The decisive moment arrived with 15 minutes remaining and it was a goal Thorverton deserved. Good play down the left from Aaron Land saw him dance past two defenders and slot a tidy finish into the corner. Budleigh host leaders Beer Albion this weekend.

Budleigh Salterton Football Club 2nds kept up with the leading bunch in Division 4 of the Devon & Exeter Football League after an impressive 6-0 defeat of Culm United, writes SpursTom.

The Robins went on the attack from the first blast of the whistle and deservedly the lead on 10 minutes through Max Robertson, operating from midfield.  It got even better on 16 minutes, Will White firing in the second.  

There should have been more goals before the break, for though the hosts squandered chances, their own ‘keeper Matthew Brown also pulled off a fine save to deny the visitors.

The second period was 14 minutes old when Matthew Lidstone increased the advantage and, within moments, it became 4-0 with Ryan Tullett netting a rare goal. Second-half substitute Harry Gibbings produced the goal of the match when lobbing the Culm ‘keeper for number five.

It was left to Lidstone to finish Culm United off with his second and the Robins’ sixth on 81 minutes, registering the team’s ninth league triumph out of 17 matches played.  It’s all looking bright for the Greenway Lane outfit.   

Budleigh Salterton Ladies travelled to Feniton Women for a local derby and produced a spirited display before going down to a 2-1 defeat. Maisie Smith scored the Budleigh goal but was later sent off.
