2022 was happily rounded off at Madeira Bowls Club with the Christmas Triples competition complete with mince pies on the Tuesday before Christmas.

A good number of members took part considering how near to Christmas it was - there were 36 festively clad players, 18 in the morning session and 18 in the afternoon session, with each team playing three games of six ends.

The winning triples team from the morning was Alan Halpin, Ann Maloney and Chris Reed and the afternoon session was won by Roy Gill, Geoff Furminger and Lin Hambly.

The two winning teams then battled it out in a tense final in which the scores were tied after the allotted six ends. An extra end was played and resulted in a win for Roy, Geoff and Lin. Club President Keith Weeks presented prizes to both teams, and the Christmas Triples Shield to the winners. Well done to all who took part and who appreciated the excellent organisation of Mary Solway and Andy Lock.

Since Christmas, there has been only one friendly fixture but also plenty of bowling going on with club, county and national competitions.

Two mixed triples teams enjoyed a home game against Budleigh Salterton and a very close encounter it was. Each club won one game each but the home team won overall by just two shots. Bob Finch and his team of Mike Killoran and Val Allam were the winning home team with 19 shots to 10, the best shot difference of the day.
