On the road at Chew Valley in North Somerset, Exmouth Cockles returned with a bonus point win and five valuable league points. Their first double win of the season against a team home and away.

The challenge was great, with their hosts riding high in Regional 1 South West League, having only lost twice this season, one of those to Exmouth.

The game was pretty even to start with, the visitors having the advantage of heading down a sharp corner in front of the club house and home partisan audience. On 23 minutes Tom Bryan opened the scoring and five minutes later added penalty 10-0.

Connor O’Shaughnessy scored for the Cockles after muscling his way through a couple of defenders, George Meadows added the extras, 10-7. A couple of minutes later, Bryan added a penalty kick, 13-7.
Exmouth endeavour was plain to see and after some sharp work from Inglis, Robbie Weeks sped away to score, Meadows just missed the touchline conversion, 13-12 at the break.

Climbing up the slope in the second period proved tough to start with and after 5 minutes Chew Valley increased their lead to 20-7.

After a couple of rolling phases and pick and go, Will Ridout burrowed over, Meadows added the conversion, 20-19. Game On. On 70 minutes, Dave Bargent was the recipient of a long line out throw from Chew Valley. He set off inside the Exmouth half, breaking a couple of tackles, went over to score the bonus point try from 50 metres out.

It might have seemed a long way, however on the unusually tight pitch it was a breeze for the birthday boy. Extras from Meadows, 20-26.

Chew Valley grabbed a pushover try but missed the conversion and a late Meadows penalty sealed the Exmouth win.

A super squad performance to set up a home game next week. Lydney RFC arrive for a 2pm kick-off on Saturday.

Exmouth Quins were back in to their groove on Saturday, scoring 6 tries in their 41-20 win over Brixham 2nds. Sam Fulthorpe, Paul Flower, Oli Engela Ras, Dale Sleeman, Guy Baker & Eddie Hooper crossed the whitewash. Sam Whitehead added eleven points from the boot.
