Madeira ladies have continued their good progress in National and County competitions. They had a strong win in their first round of the Yetton Trophy against Kingsley BC.

The two home teams won and, in the away game, there was another win for an overall score of 90 shots to 66. The next round is on November 22 and against Honiton, nearer to home for those travelling.

There are two teams in the Mason Trophy, which is played with one rink at home and one away. Madeira A played Isca B last week, winning at home and losing away by just one shot for an overall comfortable win of 43 shots to 29. Madeira B are playing Honiton next Friday, so good luck to them.

Madeira members have enjoyed a couple of friendly fixtures. Three mixed rinks travelled from Bovey Tracey last Sunday for an enjoyable encounter. The home team won two of the three rinks and overall by 78 shots to 61, with Ray Parker and his team of Annette Bister, Myra Furminger and Val Allam achieving the best shot difference for Madeira of plus six.

The ladies had a very competitive game at home against Honiton and the result mirrored the recent ladies match at Honiton, which Honiton won by three shots, so it seems there is little between the teams. This time, Madeira won by 48 shots to 44 with two winning rinks. Lin Halpin, playing with Margaret Mahon, Myra Furminger and Lyn Hambly, had the best shot difference for the home team of plus 15.

A Team from Honiton visited Budleigh Bowls Club to play their annual Mixed Triples match (writes Tony Mackness). The home team of Mo Bond, Norman Upchurch and skip for the day, Ann Vincent, came up against a strong trio from Honiton and lost 10-26.

On the second rink, the Budleigh team of NIck Jones, Melissa Camp and John Dill put up a strong fight and were the winners by the narrowest of margins 20-19. This meant Honiton were the overall winners 45-30 and Ann Vincent commented: "Congratulations to Honiton on their win and we are looking forward to our return visit, when we will do our best to reverse the result!"
