Exeter City were victims of the classic ‘new manager bounce’ on the weekend, as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat at home to lowly Burton Albion.
The Brewers had not won this season prior to the visit to St James Park, with manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink handing in his resignation and Dino Maamria taking over the reins.
The Grecians simply never got going and, despite Jay Stansfield finding the net before the goal being ruled out for offside and then forcing a decent save from the visiting custodian, Burton were the side playing with more confidence.
They got their reward with an emphatic finish from Deji Oshilaja just past the hour and Davis Kellor-Dunn confirmed the away win six minutes later. City travel to Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, another side in the bottom four, and a win for the Grecians would move them back into the top half.
