Madeira bowlers took on a new competition, Triples Knockout Tournament, with each match played as sets with two games of 8 ends with a final single end decider should it be needed.

Vic and Ann Doidge and Graham Ellis had won their semi-final 4 points to nil, while Dave Moody, Danny Doran and Brian Poulter had to play the extra end to win through. The heavens opened and the decision was made to play the Final indoors, a real test for all involved. Dave, Danny and Brian made the transition to bowling indoors quite quickly and emerged the winners.

Exmouth Journal:

The Nora Goldsmith Trophy, a competition for married pairs, was introduced by Nora Goldsmith, a member many years ago who took particular glee in observing married couples playing together, some more compatibly than others. This year it was contested over 18 ends, 3 games of 6 ends.

Ten couples took part this year and following some wonderful bowling and keenly contested games, the Nora Goldsmith Trophy for 2022 was won by Alan and Lin Halpin who had won all 3 of their matches. Runners-up were Rob and Barbara Walker having won 2 and drawn 1 of their matches. Dave and Joan Mansell, Debbie and Nick Cole were joint third.

The last placed couple were Geoff and Myra Furminger who received consolation prizes of chocolates. The presentations were made by Club President Keith Weeks. All the contestants enjoyed tea and a selection of cakes before returning to the greens to complete their final matches.

The Club is holding another Open Day on October 1 between 10am and 3pm. Why not come and have a go? Alternatively, during the winter season, coaching sessions are available every Friday afternoon at 4.30 and organised by Club Coach Chris Reed.
