Exmouth Town have two matches over the August Bank Holiday weekend as they look to extend their winning start to their Southern League campaign.

On Saturday Paulton Rovers are the visitors to the Circle of Care Community Stadium and then on Monday, Town make the short trip to the Silver Street home of Willand Rovers, with both matches kicking off at 3pm.

Both progressed to the first qualifying round of the FA Cup last Saturday, with Paulton overcoming fellow Southern League side Bideford 5-2 whilst Willand defeated Ilfracombe 2-1.

Town, meanwhile, had the weekend off after a healthy crowd of 394 witnessed their first home game in the Southern League against Wimborne Town last Wednesday and saw an absorbing match with the result in doubt right to the final minutes.

Both sides went into the match having won their opening encounters and Town settled well with Aarron Denny the first to test the visiting keeper on 12 minutes and then Callum Shipton sending a speculative volley narrowly wide.

Wimborne were patient in their build-up and were almost rewarded when a header crashed against the crossbar and they then forced a decent save from Chris Wright.

As Town took the initiative Mark Lever saw his 30-yard attempt deflected narrowly over the bar but the visitors rallied to force another save from Wright.

The second half started with Town winning a free-kick which Jordan Harris lined up fully 35 yards from goal and his effort was on target forcing a decent save.

As Town maintained the pressure a Harris header brought an even better save and from the resulting corner Dan Cullen headed narrowly wide.

As the game continued to ebb and flow Cullen was then in the action again, this time with a superb tackle to prevent a clear scoring opportunity.

Town’s defence was again well organised with no mistakes meaning the visitors for all their possession never created the sort of chance from which it could be said they should have scored.

And, heading into the closing stages, there was one last chance with four minutes to play as Town did well to keep the ball around the edge of the penalty box and eventually a deft flick from Harris found Dean Billingsley in space and he made no mistake calmly steering the ball past the despairing keeper.

As Wimborne strove for the equaliser Town kept their composure and comfortably played out time, with the man of the match award presented to the midfield terrier Callum Shipton.
