It was a quiet past week at Phear Park with no friendly matches played, writes David Evans.

There was action for the Over-60s Triples League A team, who were once again unsuccessful in a home fixture.

Their game against visiting Crediton B was a lot closer than the final result of 8-0, as the rink scores were mighty close.

The team are currently suffering their worst start to a season for some years!

However, as I have said, this encounter was a close one, as underlined by David Horne’s rink, who went into the last end one up, but the opposition squeezed in a two to win by one and Rod Davidson’s rink were three up at 14, but lost the next four ends to lose by two.

The Park will have to pull something out the bag, but they have a good team on paper and things will hopefully soon change.

Unfortunately, their match for this week is away at Dunkeswell where the all-weather surface that the hosts play on certainly favours them!

The Park B team were successful in their league outing as they defeated visiting Culm Vale 6-2, much helped by a very good win from the triple of Tatchell, Anderson and Weclawer.

The big match this week is the Axon Cup when Phear Park welcome six other local teams for a round-robin contest and the green is looking in first class condition!
