For the first time in the history of the club, Budleigh Salterton bowlers can enjoy playing indoors and outdoors this summer.
The club has made the decision to keep the indoor rinks open to allow more bowlers to enjoy their hobby after a long period of closure.
It has been a popular decision with the members and in a summer where visiting teams will be fewer than normal, the club is confident it can manage the transition and it is hoped that this will be a long-term arrangement, which will attract new members.
Roll-ups indoors are available every afternoon (excluding Sunday) at 2pm, whilst the outdoor sessions are on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 10am.
On the Green, the Budleigh men played Feniton in the first round of the Foxlands Trophy. On a windswept evening the home team of Paul Griffin, Peter Cooper, Tony Barnes and Brian Goddard played out a very close contest where the lead changed hands many times, only for the Budleigh men to finish strongly and win through 21-18.
It must be said this was a great home win against a strong Feniton side. The winners of the overall tie is decided on the results of the home and away matches.
So, with the home team registering a win, it was down to the away rink of Brian Ward,
Keith Ward, Bryan Membery and skip David Roberts to keep in touch with their opponents. After a promising start, slowly but surely, the Feniton men showed their skills and with the rub of the green not going Budleigh’s way, they finally lost out 16-27, and as a result, the club exited the competition.
All the Budleigh men did the club proud in putting up a great display in atrocious conditions.
The club looks forward to a period of settled weather in the coming weeks to take advantage of the superb outdoor surface at Cricket Field Lane.
