MP Hugo Swire has been asked to provide additional paperwork to support some of his expenses claims.

Like every other Member of Parliament, Mr Swire, MP for East Devon, has received a letter from Sir Thomas Legg asking him to provide extra paperwork to back his claims "which he is more than happy to do," said his spokeswoman.

"He has always said from the outset that should he be requested to do so, he will repay any money," she added.

When questioned at length over the expenses scandal in August, Mr Swire said he had always insisted on paying full council tax, although he was entitled to 50 percent discount, and rents his second home so doesn't benefit financially from it.

He defended the right to employ his wife Sasha, both for her expertise as a qualified journalist and for her knowledge of his constituency.

Mr Swire, who would not make any further comment this week, said he would make a further statement when Sir Thomas releases the final results of his enquiry, which is expected to be in three weeks' time.
