AN annual Woodbury Salterton open garden event which raised more than 1,000 last year takes place next week.

The gates of the picturesque garden of The Old Vicarage will be thrown open to the public from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday, July 4, in aid of Hospiscare. The organic garden, owned by Sheila and John Mills, will host a variety of stalls selling plants, cakes and cream teas as well as a raffle.

Situated between the school and the church, the garden boasts a wildlife pond, herbaceous borders, bonsai and an impressive vegetable area.

Sheila said: “Last year’s event was a great success and we are hoping this year will be the same. We are lucky to have much support, in the form of cakes and help, from the village. Soothing live music will provide an added attraction this year.”

Entrance to the garden will be 2. Parking in the school playground or the Diggers Rest pub. For more information call John or Sheila on (01395) 232601.
