Woodbury Common blaze engulfed two hectares of land
EIGHT fire crews were called to tackle a blaze which broke out on Woodbury Common on Sunday evening.
EIGHT fire crews were called to tackle a blaze which broke out on Woodbury Common on Sunday evening.
Firefighters from Exmouth, Topsham, Honiton and Exeter were sent to the Woodbury Castle area of the common at around 8.20pm where they found two hectares of land was on fire.
More manpower and water was needed to tackle the blaze so fire crews from Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth and Exeter were drafted in.
Firefighters used hose reels, beaters and compressed air foam as they battled to bring the fire under control.

A fire break was cut in the gorse to help the crews control the blaze.
Firefighters revisited the area the following morning to check the site was safe.
