OFFICERS are continuing to make enquiries to establish how the body of a young woman pulled from the River Exe came to be in the water.
The body was spotted at around 11.30 yesterday. It is believed she was discovered in the estuary, near Exmouth, by a water taxi driver who then called coastguard workers.
The finding comes on the same day the police issued an appeal to find a 20-year-old woman with learning difficulties who, on Wednesday, failed to return to her Dawlish home.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall police said yesterday afternoon that officers were making enquiries to establish how she came to be in the water.
The spokesperson added: "Next of kin have yet to be advised and she has yet to be formally identified.
