Pupils from an Exmouth school are celebrating sporting success after winning an East Devon tournament.

Youngsters from years five and six at Withycombe Raleigh Primary School took part in a tag rugby competition held at The King’s School, Ottery St Mary.

The Withycombe Raleigh school was one of 14 teams from across East Devon to take part.

Withycombe’s team went through the tournament undefeated, eventually overcoming Otterton in the final.

The school will now represent the district at the Devon School Summer Games next month.

Headteacher Stephen Powley expressed his pride at the efforts of the pupils, adding: “We have some very talented children across a range of sports and the year five and six tag rugby team is no exception.

“Their after-school practice sessions have really paid off and the team are looking forward to representing East Devon at the Devon School Summer Games in June.”
