Children at Withycombe Raleigh Primary School got a taste of what life was like for pupils in Victorian times.

The event was being held as part of the school’s 150th birthday celebrations and a party, with Victoria sponge cake provided by Tesco, was held.

Children were also given a flavour of what school life was like in Victorian days with teachers carrying canes.

Pupils also had their hands inspected before they went for lunch and themed entertainment was provided by the Exmouth Shanty Men.

Each class also had Victorian-themed activities throughout the day including making Victorian lanterns.

A spokesman for the school said: “The Victorian day was a huge success.

“Staff and children were all in their Victorian outfits and the theme was taken very seriously.”
