A WINDSURFER spotted drifting out to sea off Exmouth on Tuesday morning prompted the launch of the town's lifeboats.
The RNLI crews launched the inshore and all-weather boats at around 11am, and the coastguard helicopter from Portland was scrambled, after a woman reported a windsurfer drifting out to sea had disappeared from sight.
The boats and helicopter carried out a thorough inshore search to find the stricken windsurfer.
The search was called off when Exmouth coastguards discovered the windsurfer had made his way back to shore.
