Why not switch off at midnight

I agree with Mr Gatter (Journal letters Decmber 31). If our councillors gave up a little of their allowances it would be a great saving and, as Mr Gatter pointed out, this would cover all the expenses and benefit the people of Exmouth.

As for the coloured lights on the seafront do they really need to be on all night? If they were switched off at midnight this would be a big saving. Years ago they were taken down at the end of each season. Perhaps, if this had continued, damage to them would have been prevented and we wouldn't be faced with losing them for good and at least been able to have and enjoy them during the summer months.

It was nice to see the fun fair back at the Elizabeth Hall for the new year celebrations and the fireworks being launched from the Tudor Rose. This all made it a night to remember
