If East Devon District Council has to make cutbacks to its services then look no further than Leisure East Devon (LED).

If East Devon District Council has to make cutbacks to its services then look no further than Leisure East Devon (LED).

The council is giving LED 1.155 million per year, which represented 23% of the income for LED in 2008, as stated in the LED's statement of accounts for 2008. With a drop in excess of 30% net income from the previous year, LED paid 36K in staff bonuses.

The funding agreement LED has with East Devon Council from 2011 is being discussed - the first five years up till 2010 being guaranteed.

The LED statement of accounts for 2009 will make interesting reading.

Why are the council/taxpayers funding this organisation to the tune of over one million pounds a year? Isn't it time to look for an alternative set up that is not so dependent on council money and support.
