TREEHOUSE preschool in Exeter Road received a cheque from Tescos for £200 which will allow them to purchase wet weather gear for the children to use.

Sandra Hurlock, Nursery Teacher, Early Years Professional at the preschool said; "We heard from Tescos that they had appointed a Tesco Community Champion who could make grants available to local groups so we got a letter off really quickly."

The new Government Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum which came into place in September requires all children to have access to the outside, regardless of the weather.

The cheque presentation took place on a particularly wet and windy day, a time when the children could have been playing outside had they the correct clothing for wet weather play.

Sandra added; "We are always told there is no such thing as unsuitable weather, just unsuitable clothing. We are going to use the money to buy welly boots, boots storage and all in one rain gear."

Helen Joscelyne, Tesco Community Champion presented the cheque to the staff at the preschool.

Helen said "Tescos really want to get involved in the local community.

"So the role of Community Champion is being trialled at 59 stores in the country, including this one.

"People can write in with any community event or fundraising project.

"We can go along and help or donate prizes for a raffle.

"We can also have posters up at the stall advertising functions, it's the local catchment area that we are really working on at the moment."

Helen can be contacted at the Tesco store on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays.
