Weight of traffic

While I applaud the newly-developed Strand – a perfect example of visionary urban decision-making – I’m afraid it’s the naughty step for the planners who have so recklessly channelled traffic up Beacon Place.
Why is this a disaster waiting to happen? Because there are no speed bumps, nor 20mph limit. Because the river of traffic zips past a primary school and a church.
And because, for a significant distance, the road lacks a pavement. What was once a pleasant stroll is now a short cut to an early death. Indeed, the traffic is so heavy that the road is collapsing beneath it.
Devon County Council appears to have little interest in spreading a little goodwill (and tarmac) so us locals are now planning to plant flower displays in the deeper of the many potholes. Coach parties, of course, will be welcome to view the results.
