We’re all friends

May I respond to the writer of the letter entitled ‘Young at Heart ’ in Opinion (November 21)?

Nine years ago, I placed an advertisement in the Exmouth Journal for friends, and, as a result, The Friendship Group was formed.

We are virtually a self-help group of men and women of mixed ages, but all over 60 and single.

There are no fees (just buy your own tea/coffee), no committees, no apologies when we miss a week or two, and we are totally democratic with everyone able to have a say regarding the few activities we undertake.

We meet twice a week in two hotels, Monday in The Manor, and Wednesday in The Imperial, from 10.30 until noon.

Both hotels have been very supportive and we also use many of the other catering establishments in the town for lunches and evening meals.

The main criteria is to welcome newcomers and meet in the spirit of friendship.

We discuss anything and everything, put the world to right, and have a lot of fun and laughter.

Yes we are OAPs but not old in the sense of having a lot of life in us still. Age is a frame of mind and we still feel young.

Do come along and give us a try. You will be welcome, as will anyone else who wants motivation to come out and meet once or twice a week and make some new friends.
