EXMOUTH Town Council, one of the most influential and well governed in the region, are inviting those interested in standing as a councillor to a drop-in session to find out more.

EXMOUTH Town Council, one of the most influential and well governed in the region, are inviting those interested in standing as a councillor to a drop-in session to find out more.

With just five months until the local elections on May 5 2011 the town hall are calling on voters to consider putting themselves forward.

As an elector you can vote for candidates in the elections. You can also consider putting yourself forward as a candidate for election.

The town council is made up of 25 councillors, five in each ward, Withycombe Raleigh, Halsdon, Exmouth Town and Littleham.

Town Clerk John Wokersien said: “You may have thought ‘Why is the Council doing things in a certain way and what decision would I have made?’

“As a councillor you have the opportunity to become more deeply involved in your community, to have more information on which to make decisions and to make decisions on issues affecting your town or district.”

The council will be holding two drop in sessions to give you more information about what it takes to be a councillor.

These are on: Wednesday January 19 4pm until 7pm and Saturday January 22 10am until 12 noon.

He added: “Why not come along to the Town Hall and find out more about how you can become involved.

“These are exciting times for Exmouth and if you wish to help drive forward opportunities that now present, then the position of councillor is for you.

“We have a great team here and have achieved a huge amount in the last few years but there is still much to be done. Be a part of it.”
