Villagers being urged: ‘Support Lympstone’s community pre-school’

A village pre-school could close its doors for good, if it does not find the funding for a brand new headquarters.
Lympstone Pre-school has been operating for the last 20 years and is in the process of applying for a grant to build a new home at the village hall.
The group has applied for an Armed Force Covenant Grant, which, if successful, could fund a new home, which would be rent free – reducing the financial burden on the group.
Pre-school practice manager Vicki Drinkwater has warned that if the bid is unsuccessful, the group could close for good due to spiralling costs.
She said: “Lympstone Pre-school has been an integral part of the village community for over 20 years. We are a charity-funded organisation, heavily reliant on fundraising and donations to make ends meet.
“We have recently fallen foul of the central government cuts, which has meant that all local council funding for early years has been dramatically reduced.
“As things currently stand, even with a reduction in all spending and a focus on fundraising, we cannot financially sustain ourselves beyond 2017.”
