The 28-metre-high observation wheel is being operated by Mi-Wheel on East Devon District Council’s (EDDC) Beach Gardens in the Esplanade.

Journal photographer Terry Ife took a ride on the wheel to capture these images.

An EDDC spokesperson said: “The wheel started operating on July 29 and since then has had more than 4,000 visitors aged from four weeks to 94 years old. The 94-year-old, I understand, has been on it four times!”

The wheel was originally installed on a temporary permission for up to four weeks, but a planning application has been submitted to extend its stay into September.
