VANDALS have damaged a new climbing frame in Exmouth's Phear Park.

Graffiti has been etched onto a play area which was carved out of the 300-year-old Lucombe Oak by the district council.

Residents young and old had been enjoying the frame which only opened earlier this month.

Exmouth mayor Darryl Nicholas condemned what had been done to the play area.

He said: 'Great efforts were taken to ensure that this fallen tree could be converted into a natural climbing frame.

"It would be a great pity if a thoughtless few progressively ruin what is a unique and interesting play facility for local children and families.
