The bond between Exe Sailing Club and Exmouth RNLI has been highlighted with a ‘generous’ donation of more than £1,600.

The donation from Exe Sailing Club to Exmouth RNLI is the accumulation of two years of fundraising.

Exe Sailing Club has raised £1,638 from donations though club memberships and holding various functions to support Exmouth RNLI.

Many crew volunteers are members of the sailing club, but the club upholds honorary membership for every crew volunteer, allowing a close bond to form.

Dave Preston, the commodore of Exe Sailing Club, is proud of the close relationship between club and station.

He said: “At Exe Sailing Club we have many current crew members, as well as retired lifeboat crew, and all our sailing club members wholeheartedly support and respect the work the RNLI do both on and off the water.”

Dave and Stuart Hills from Exe Sailing Club came to Exmouth Lifeboat Station to present a cheque to coxswain Steve Hockings-Thomspon and were given a guided tour of the Shannon class lifeboat, R and J Welburn, to learn about its capabilities.
