DEVON has been named as one of the UK's most popular holiday destinations in the UK.

Devon Association of Tourist Attractions (DATA) has welcomed the news that Devon is one of the favourite holiday destinations in the UK.

A study produced by Continental Research shows that Devon is amongst the most favoured destinations with 35 per cent of holidaymakers heading here in 2008 for a main holiday or short break.

Angela Wright, MBE, chairman of DATA said: "We are very pleased that more and more people are choosing to holiday in the UK, with Devon being amongst the favourites.

"We have a lot to offer our visitors with great locally sourced food, accommodation and some of the best beaches in the UK. Devon has plenty to suit all, whether you are a family on holiday or a couple wanting to get away from it all.

"We are able to offer plenty of top attractions catering for everyone, ranging from theme parks, farms and zoos to gardens, boats and trains.

"Devon has everything for the perfect holiday and our warm welcome ensures that people will return year after year."

With further good news for the domestic tourist industry, a leading operator has predicted that UK holiday accommodation will sell out completely over the next few weeks.

Self catering company Hoseasons has revealed that there is an increase in people holidaying at home this year due to several factors including the strength of the Euro, wider economic uncertainties and a reluctance to fly after increased fares and problems at airports.
