I AM amused that various letter-writers attribute ASDA's retreat to the malign effect of local opposition. ASDA and the East Devon District Council both blame the current economic down-turn. After all, they have taken no notice of local opinion in the past.I am glad that ASDA has pulled out, but cannot take any credit for its decision to spare our shoreline.Perhaps the current plans to revamp The Strand can be postponed for a project to turn the site of the bus station into an efficient transport hub?Carol Mulholland,(via email).
